Biographical Sketch:
- Ilwon Kim, Ph.D. is currently leading overall technical and business operations at Functional Coating Technology. He has more than 14 years of R&D experiences in the state of art materials technologies, including solid oxide fuel cells and hard coatings. His experience encompasses novel electrode materials and processing for solid oxide fuel cell, epitaxial nanolayered coatings and mechanical properties of thin films. He has co-founded FCT in 2002, after 4 productive years at Applied Thin Films, Inc, where he has developed novel oxide buffer technology for super conducting tapes resulting in a technology commercialization via licensing to a main US developer. As a principal investigator, he has successfully completed 8 SBIRs and 1 SECA Program efforts, where 5 of which have been instrumental in developing FCT’s current core technologies in SOFC area. In addition to the technical role, he is also undertaking administrative role as the Chief Executive Officer at FCT.
