Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies offer potential solutions to the energy challenges related to battlefield logistics, energy security, and environmental sustainability. The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is engaged in improving the viability of these technologies for use in Department of Defense (DoD) operations through three primary efforts:  forklift, bus, and infrastructure demonstration projects; a portable power pilot project; and solid hydrogen storage R&D.  This presentation will discuss these efforts, with a primary focus on four soon-to-be initiated forklift demonstration projects.

Abstract:  The primary drivers behind DLA’s support for hydrogen and fuel cell technology research and development have been the President’s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative and goals set forth in the 2005 Energy Policy
